Field of Heroes

Steele-Waseca Cooperative Electric was the site of a Field of Heroes U.S. flag display, May 24-27, put on by the Moonlighters Exchange Club, Exchange Club of Steele County, and Exchange Club of Owatonna. The Exchange clubs conducted the project to honor local area heroes who have made a difference in the lives of those wishing to sponsor a flag. Each sponsored flag proudly displayed the name of a hero chosen by the sponsor, allowing participants to honor a loved one, veteran, first responder, or any hero close to their heart. All proceeds support Phase 2 of the Owatonna Veterans Memorial, ensuring it remains a lasting tribute to our veterans. Owatonna Mayor Tom Kuntz issued a proclamation during the opening ceremony of the Field of Heroes conducted Friday, May 24, in the warehouse of Steele-Waseca. In the adjacent photo, a Steele-Waseca line technician captured a bucket truck photo of a portion of the 250 flags on display during Memorial Day weekend. The display attracted many visitors driving through the co-op’s driveway to view the flags.
