Steele-Waseca Cooperative Electric is among 18 Minnesota electric co-ops sending lineworkers to help restore power after Hurricane Helene caused outages to more than 1.25 million co-op members in the southeastern U.S.
Steele-Waseca sent four line technicians and two trucks Wednesday, Oct. 2, to Laurens, South Carolina to assist Laurens Electric Cooperative.
Minnesota crews will be working to restore power for three electric cooperatives. The others include Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative and Broad River Electric Cooperative. These lineworkers joined others from at least 18 states who converged on the storm-ravaged region to rebuild systems after the massive devastation.
The Minnesota Rural Electric Association began coordinating efforts with the South Carolina statewide association on Oct. 2, and by 6 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, trucks and crews were rolling toward South Carolina. Representing Steele-Waseca are Line Foreman Kevin Kjersten, Assistant Foreman Adam Davis, Assistant Foreman Jake Jablonski, and Line Technician Carlos Cruz.
