METERING
SWCE requires a 200 amp bypass meter socket for all services 200 amps or less. For services over 200 amps, SWCE will provide all metering equipment. This includes the CTs and meter. SWCE will place the CTs inside the transformer therefore the electrician does not need to provide a CT cabinet. SWCE will terminate the secondary conductors inside the transformer for the electrician. SWCE will also require some information regarding the size and type of the load along with the type and number of conductors the electrician plans to use for his portion of the project. An affidavit is required before a meter can be set.
SERVICE DISCONNECT MEANS
SWCE requires all services to include a service disconnecting means located near the meter socket. This disconnecting means shall be supplied by the member or member’s electrician and must be UL listed. The service disconnecting means may be a separate piece or equipment or combined with the meter socket.
TRANSFORMER
Transformers will be set at minimum 8 feet from any structure. This site of the transformer will need to be discussed with SWCE personnel prior to any electrical work is performed. Some of SWCE larger transformers require a concrete pad to be poured. A SWCE technician or engineer will provide you with the specification of the pad according to the size of the transformer required for your planned load. A fiberglass basement, provided by SWCE, needs to be placed under the concrete pad. Please keep in frequent contact with SWCE regarding the timeline of your project. SWCE does not stock many of the larger size transformers. There is a good chance that the proper sized transformer may need to be ordered from the factory which can take 12 – 20 weeks of lead time.
